Getting started as a suburban prepper family. Not too much accumulated so far but working on it. We’ve been working on the finance angle for years and have been building outdoor preparedness items in conjunction with our Boy Scout outdoors skills. Storage space is an issue for mass storage of food and water – that’s what I’m most concerned with. That and security. We’re in a dense suburban environment and if we do have a collaps situation, it will be hard to keep food and supplies a secret.
We’ve got a creek that runs through our property but my son and I hiked around and found that the creek runs right past a commercial landfill. There’s not a lot of household garbage in it – mainly commercial building trash, but in my mind, even good filters may not be adequate to remove what might be leaching into the water through the soil. There are some small fish in the creek but I don’t trust it – lots of nails, tar paper, and potential petroliates. I guess in a total lack of water situation it might be our only choice. We could filter it and boil it but those measures may not be effective against chemicals and metals.

Part of my job requires me to monitor an onsite waste treatment facility in the chemical plant I work at. Believe me, if people in the country knew what went into the local rivers, creeks, etc they would all be catching rainwater. Anyway, you should be able to destill the water even with those chemicals, saturated heavy metals, and general pollutants out. Check into building a still much like the ones used by moonshiners. ONly problem with that is that destilling strips off minerals that were in the water and breaks those bonds. Since the water is now “looking” for some other mineral to bond with because it bonds so easily it then strips off the minerals in your body.

Good day to all preppers! I am not new to prepping but am new to finding fellow preppers. I am a retired Army SFC, out of service for 11 years now. I read a ton of material on prepping etc…what I wish to know or wish to find out is off line meetings, or places we may meet. If there is something catastrophic the net will be gone. I am able to manage my families needs.
Scenarios I see are bigger issues then maintaining my family.
I dont see – snap and we are in deep fecal matter, I see the slow progression of – snap.
International incident(s) -Military deployments, NG/Res call out, retiree recalls etc.
I have said for years if retirees are recalled then its the end of the world.
I say this as a joke but???
Lack of – stuff, a broad spectrum of basic needs, you can fill in the blanks.
Most people are not aware or don’t care to be aware of more than what they will eat at the next restaurant.
Granted prepping is a way of life.
My first need after taking care of my family is finding like minded common sense people/groups, NOT fanatics, close minded fear mongering indv/groups are not healthy or welcome.
I dont want to think of EOW scenarios, America will prevail and we might have a hiccup in doing so but we are Americans and not a third world country-yet!
I live in a small town near a military base and wish to connect with like minded preppers.
Thanks!
Sam
